Reviews
I was on the fence about these Insight Marvel journals because the retail price seemed very high for a journal - even hardcover. I decided to try the Avengers one to see if they were worth it. Hmmm, kinda.First, the look and quality is very nice. The faux leather looks real and feels supple. The paper is solid quality - not exceptional, but shouldn't bleed either. The pocket inside the back cover is nice to hold a business card, or other slim item. The downside to the faux leather is that it also "stains" like real leather. Mine arrived with a mark at the top of the front cover and small "dents" in the back cover. Too much hassle to exchange, but underlies that this could start to look really worn after moderate use. The book has bold, red and gray tone colored end papers featuring characters in concept art from the Infinity War film; the same print in front and at back. The gold Avengers emblem on the cover is simple and elegant.I deducted a star because the price is too high for this. This is a small journal and other than the emblem and endpapers, there's nothing else special about it. The pages inside are plain. For $18.95, they should have a Marvel design watermark, or a couple of full color plates at the front, even gilt edging. And, thought it is a sewn binding, the book does NOT lay flat. I tried to do so and could hear a cracking sound so I stopped. This would be nice as a gift for a fan, but I won't be buying more of them as I originally intended (okay, I might cave if they do one for Thor or Loki). This should retail for no more than $15 unless they up the design/quality in line with something like Peter Pauper Press puts out - seriously, check out their journals.Overall, recommended - IF you can get it at a good discount.
